RGB to Grayscale à la Dan

Hi photoshop workers,
I am reading on page 112 of Photoshop LAB Color from Dan Margulis ..."find
areas of color contrast and convert them into luminous contrast. ... [fully
explained in Professional Photoshop] " ... using the channel mixer.
Someone can point me to a tutorial on this peticuliar matter?

Re: RGB to Grayscale à la Dan

I like the one Adobe has in their tutorials
make hue/sat adjustment layer, do not move sliders
make another hue/sat layer and pull center slider left to desaturate
use layer mode: color or overlay may work too
for this layer on top
go to first adjustment layer you made (under it)
move hue slider see how different colors change to gray
