Converting an image to an oil or watercolout painting

Using Photoshop 7, is there a method or tool of converting a
photographic image into an image that rersembles a water colour or an
oil painting?

Thanks Tony, if that's your real name......... and BD.
I've tried a few of Adobe Exchange actions but they seem a bit poor.
No doubt they can be giggled a little. Buzz and it's bigger brothers
look good in the adverts so I might download a demo version. As you
say not cheap.

How about
http://www.swsoftware.com/photo_software_effects.aspx
or
http://www.virtualpainter5.com/
I've used VP5 and it works well.
Neither of these will do anything that you cannot do with Photoshop
alone, but they do make it easier.

There are a few filters which can provide _some_ effects - I recommend
experimenting with some under Filters / Artistic or Filters / Brush
strokes. There are also filters such as the Texturizer, which can
create the effect of your image being on canvas or rough paper. Adds a
nice touch to the effect.
As to 'methods', here's an example which I quite like:

If you're serious about making something look like a painting, Corel
Painter 9 is amazing. Combine it with a graphics tablet like a Wacom,
and it opens up a whole new world.
