Re: Is L glass that good? Yes, there was a 35-70mm zoom, but along with the 35mm f/2, it was a very disappointing performer. It actually worked very well, with the viewfinder masks gradually opening out as you zoomed towards wide angle. A very clever solution. If only the lenses could have been focused manually, rather than the pseudo-manual focusing that didn't work well. There were very strong rumours of a G3 with true manual focusing, but the Contax division of Kyocera was in desperate financial trouble by then, and the disastrous venture into full frame DSLRs with the N Digital finally killed them off. I know what you mean, but the 28-35-50mm f/4 ASPH Tri-Elmar is an exceptionally good performer, well up to Leica's current stellar standards. It's an excellent travel lens. Take a 90mm and you have a very good all-round outfit. Actually, there are now *two* Tri-Elmars because Leica have designed an intriguing 16-18-21mm f/4 ASPH Tri-Elmar. Obviously, they had the M8 in mind, on which it offers 21-24-28mm equivalent focal lengths, but it will cover the full 35mm frame so can be used on the M1-M7 bodies too. The accessory viewfinder is amazing, with 16-18-21-24-28mm focal lengths *and* parallax compensation. But both the lens and the viewfinder are very expensive. Tony Polson
