Minolta x-300 problem

Hi,
Im considering getting my old x300 out again as, like many people i
know, I dont want to shell out on a digital SLR as I dont think they
are good enough yet, and the results that I get from my digital camera
doesnt compare to an SLR.
The reason that I shelved the x300 was that im getting a pink/red
streak down all of the prints - its about an inch thick and appears
about an inch from the left edge. Is this a major problem (im thinking
light leakage) that I can fix myself?
also the frame counter stopped going round - im not to worried about
that though.
and advice will be greatly received.
thanks
Darren

Re: minolta x-300 problem

There are many fine used Minoltas comparable to the x300 from reputable
vendors with limited warranties at clearance prices. This would be a better
alternative to paying for repairs.

5) Does this happen on all rolls of film?

Re: minolta x-300 problem

The rear door foam seals need replacement. This is a fairly easy job
to do yourself. I buy foamies from Wal-Mart with the self adhesive
back. Using a toothpick clean out the old foam from the door channels
then cut a thin strip the width of the channel and carefully place it
into the channel adhesive back down using the toothpick with the point
cut off.
The seal at the edge of the door next to the film take-up spool can be
replaced with felt. Most Minoltas however use felt and this seal
should be OK.
If it needs replacement you can buy felt sheets from Wal-Mart with
adhesive backs also.
This could be the spring has come loose which would require removal of
the top cover which I would recommend againest..

(Translates into a 6mm streak on the negative.)
More information is needed to make any sort of call on
what the cause may be:
1) Is the streak horizontal (long way on the print) or
vertical (short way)?
2) On the negative:
If horizontal is the streak present between frames?
If vertical does the streak extend into the sprocket
area of the film?
3) Is the streak uniform and the same on all negatives.
Are there bright spots in the streak, if so what do
they look like?
Is the streak uniform on each negative but varies
in intensity from negative to negative.
4) Are the edges of the streak well defined or is the
streak fuzzy?
