Wide or normal 19 monitor for photos

Looking to get a monitor for my laptop, and trying to figure out whether
normal aspect or wide makes more sense for photography. I think widescreen
is mostly for movie viewing?
Thanks.

I stick to square monitors for computing. Widescreen monitors,
especially the inexpensive ones, have lower vertical resolution.
If I had buckets of money, I'd have 5:4 CRT in the center and two
widescreen LCDs, both in portrait orientation, on either side.
Take care,

I vote for wide. While some may prefer dual monitors (and I understand
why) but I like the wides. The tool pallettes can be shoved off to the
side, you can have multiple Apps open. and keep the windows clear of
each other. Ands you only have one monitor to deal with. At a later
date you can always add another monitor. I have the Apple 20" Cinema
Display at home.. and at work, I have the SUN 24"inch LCD. I wouldn't
trade either. I like Wide screens and find them useful for any task.

For imaging? Two monitors, one for the image to work on, and tool
palletes on the other. Both standard type not wide. Tool pallete monitor
can be a el-cheapo 15"-er. The image monitor should be as big as possible
and very fine grained physical pixelation, eg: mine is an old Sony gdm
f500r 21", on which each pixel is 1/0.0022 [fraction] of one millimeter
in a matrix grid of micro wires. That general idea is what you need to
research, the sizes of physical pixels on available monitors, the smaller
the better. The best would be a small sized HD plazma TV lol... well my
monitor is that, but it is a CRT, not LCD.

...
Some pictures are short and wide. (landscapes) Some pictures are tall and
skinny. (Portraits) I think square monitors are best.....
