20D NEVER STRIKES OUT !

Another night at the old ball yard tonight, but the great shots were
far and few between.
Perhaps the 1-0 pitching duel had something to do with it, or maybe it
was the 90=BA heat.
The 20D, like the home team, didn't get many hits.
But here's one showing off a little shutter speed taken by the Canon
20D, the Super 70-200 f/2.8L, and the Canon 2x TC:

So even on a bad night, the 20D never strikes out!

Some? It looks like sand. Unfortunately, I don't have a readily
available scan from fast color film to post as a comparison, but the
two are not dissimilar.

Sure, there's some sensor noise at 1600 ISO, but it's nowhere near as
bad as 1600 ISO film would be.

Are you not noticing all of that sensor noise? No worse or better
than most of the high-ISO Fuji negs I've seen.

Thanks. I think.
Sounds like an optimistic football coach.

Re: 20D NEVER STRIKES OUT !

I've done that as well. I have more shots of
clouds and rain than lighting during the
day. But when you get it, neat.
I agree with Helen. Bret's work is quite
stunning and worth the praise. Those who
don't agree that's fine. But it is time for some
of you to put up or shut up. There are some
who just bash because they think they
are immune or think they are better.
Guess what? Until you can prove it,
stuff it.
I have more respect to those who can
argue a point than calling names.
I have been shooting and printing for
over thirty years. So I know what to look
for in images. Even if I fail to obtain that
"look". At least I know what it is.
Bret, keep up the great work. You can
only get better.

Re: 20D NEVER STRIKES OUT !

I just stand there looking stupid with my finger on the shutter button,
and when I see the flash I click. Many times the lightning bolt will
flicker so even if you miss it on the first flash you might catch the
next one in the same spot. So the old adage is wrong.
And it does move from the ground up, as well.

Hey how did you get that lightning shot? 1/200 sec?
Preetty fast!

Yeah, but can he shoot baseball?
I agree, those pics were pretty damned awesome. But he cheated.
He used two lights and had the bugs indoors. How hard is that?
All seriousness aside, you haven't REALLY tested yourself until you've
taken your MP-E 65mm macro lens, gone out on some humid 90=BA day and
squatted in bushes trying to remain dead still while you hold your 20D
and your 550EX/diffuser mounted on your flip-down bracket. What makes
it even more difficult is the way you attain focus, by moving slightly
toward or away from the subject. Believe me, it's tough. I sweat so
much I go thru about 5 shirts a day. That's why I have a special
appreciation for the work that Igor Siwanowicz has done.

Taking a cue from him, I'm ordering a second Speedlight and then we
shall see what we shall see. One thing I'll never be able to do is to
match some of the odd looking bugs he has in his gallery. I've never
seen such things. But I've bookmarked his gallery to use as my new
reference standard. There truly is some wondrous stuff there.
