Bowser.
Great to see you get out a lot.
Nice photo and is indeed gaudy.
Looks like the three amigos all shop at Wal-Mart.
Archived photo so I won't comment beyond that.

This photo says "San Francisco" to me.
Love the framing and the cropping although it would have looked much
better without being *over* photo-shopped.
Like to see the shot without the outrageous saturation boost.

Had to show off the garden in bloom.
Consciously tried to isolate the one flower, thought I did an ok job.
The gold reflector helped immensely to make the photo *gaudy*. Other
than some burning of the background and a slight saturation boost, the
photo is as shot.

Great shot, as usual.
210 second exposure seems a bit extreme.
Another archive so no further comments :(

This shot SCREAMS WAYYY over saturation via some photo manipulation
program.
Sorry, I don't like it at all and Gerber daises are one of my favorite
flowers.... although I've never had much luck growing them.

Again, this photo does nothing for me. Guess I've done all the
firework photos I can handle 20 years ago so I may be impartial.
A foreground element other than a barely recognizable fence would be
nice. Fireworks photos work best when double exposed with a different
foreground (IMO).

You must be back in FL ?
Bugs indeed. Seems like the lens is focused on the leaf instead of the
bugs. No doubt it is gaudy as I believe you when you say there is no
saturation kick. Well done but seems OOF on my monitor.
In closing I'd like to say I appreciate everyone's effort which
reminds me of a quote by Alex Osborne which goes *something* like
this...
"Creativity is so delicate a flower that praise tends to make it
bloom, while discouragement often nips it in the bud. Any of us will
put out more and better ideas if our efforts are appreciated."
Well done everybody...

Re: [SI] Gaudy---->

It was pretty washed out & boring without the chroma-butchering but yeah
the composition was ok so I ended up doing this. What I really should do
is return in better lighting conditions and I pass there often so I will
do that. Thanks for comments.

Re: Gaudy---->

You are a harsh task master... Hmm, I thought I was the task master
this time... but anyway I have to agree, I think I'll blame it on the
laptop I was using. Even after getting home the straight conversion is
too flat, the high contrast version is ok. The reality is that it was
a snap shot and nothing more.
I should have gone down to the Gay Pride Parade when I was in San
Francisco, but that was more than I wanted to tackle with the little
monster in tow.
What I should have submitted was the 3 foot plush purple elephant in a
stunning sequined gossamer tutu I saw when we were headed back home
yesterday morning :-(
Thanks for the comments,

Re: [SI] Gaudy---->

Admonishment noted, sir. And deserved. My only defense is that I spent
*way* too much time last week trying to talk a little sense within an
intellectual environment in which I should have known better. Much better.
And not a great deal of time was left for photography. I won't make that
mistake again.
And to think, some fellow just down the rural road from me recently painted
his house a very hot pink. Very. No kidding. So bad that cars almost
crash every day as they drive by. And I couldn't find the time to walk down
the road...
I also questioned the 210 second exposure time right after I posted the
photo. You may be right. I think I may have mixed up my notes from that
night. That would be five stops below a one second (non-corrected)
exposure. Thinking back, I remember more light than that.
My son and I were standing out in sub-freezing cold while I worked the black
"shutter" card and he kept time on his luminous watch. I now carry one of
those small, digital (imagine that...) voice recorders in my pocket to keep
track of my technical details. Holds much more info per negative than any
EXIF set of fields. <g>
Lastly, sincere thanks for the compliment. My boy and I worked pretty hard
on this Halloween display that year. We couldn't bear not to make the
souvenir photo. If anyone's interested, here's the "backstage" version of
the subject with the electrical cords visible,

The best part is that night we placed an overflowing bowl of yummy candy
smack dab in the middle of the "grave." It was priceless to watch the
little kids battle within themselves trying desperately to overcome their
terror and inch close enough to get their hands on a piece of it. Even the
moms enjoyed that.
