Any Ideas about Publishing?

I just got off the phone with a guy who would like me to publish a book
of my photos, specifically those in my Reflection Riding gallery.
http://www.pbase.com/bret/rr
I know very little about such things except for what I've read on MR's
site.
My friend has offered to finance the whole deal and be paid back by any
possible proceeds from the sale of these books. Plus, I'll get some of
the proceeds as well.
That's the kid of offer I have trouble passing up.
So anybody here know anything about getting published?
Gimme some links!

Re: Any Ideas about Publishing?

Go for it Brett. You aren't counting on this for a living so might as
well just get it out there for folks to enjoy & a little cash never hurts.

Re: Any Ideas about Publishing?

My camera inserts the make and model into the EXIF information, but not the
serial number. Even without that, I would think that it would be relatively
easy to prove copyright ownership, especially if there are additional photos
of the same subject taken at the same time.
Problem with copyright is that, unless the image has some value, it may cost
more in legal expenses than can be recovered from the interloper. But
that's another topic entirely.

Re: Any Ideas about Publishing?

Yes....But I don't know what you mean by "owning the camera with the serial
number in the exif" means....Does the digital image contain the serial
number of the camera that took it?

Re: Any Ideas about Publishing?

Unless of course you never release a full 100% file, a slight crop, a
slightly higher resolution original, plus of course owning the camera
with the serial number in the exif may well hope swing the balance.

Re: Any Ideas about Publishing?

Hummmmmm Another little known advantage of film over digital....If you have
the original negative, that would be proof that the photo belongs to you,
but if all you've got is a digital image, then you would have a devil of a
time trying to prove that yours is the original......
