A BIG BANG FOR THE 300D!

With all of Bret's posts raving about the 20D, I figured it was time I
demonstrate that you don't need to spend lots of money to get good
pictures; although we all already know that. ;-)
Here are some pictures I took yesterday at my local fireworks show
using my 300D and a Canon 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens:

Re: A BIG BANG FOR THE 300D!

No, the 300D was the last digital Rebel slr from Canon (6 megapixels), the current
Rebel is the 350D (8 megapixels). The black ones look better than the silver ones.
Pentax also makes less expensive d-slrs but the Canon CMOS (complementary
metal-oxide semiconductor) sensor (the "film") is superior to everyone elses CCD
(charge coupled device), as a picture taking element. Of course "why" is up to you
to research. As far as why the rebels are cheaper, feature discounts and the actual
physical size of the CMOS chip, smaller. You could still shoot a sharp poster
with it.

Re: A BIG BANG FOR THE 300D!

Very true. I guess both sides have their positives and negatives.

Yeah, like the Canonistas don't bash you over the head with the 20D, 30D
.... whateverD every chance they get.
Parly-vous Annika1980?

Hah! I'm not sure if it's just me but most of the people I've run into
who use Nikon equipment seem to have attitudes about their stuff. Could
just be the people I've met tho.

Re: A BIG BANG FOR THE 300D!

That's a first-class, high-grade crappola website, if ever I saw one.
The pics look terrible, after downloading endless ads and junk. From
that display, your D50 doesn't hold a candle to the 300D, let alone
anything fancier.

I guess you better consider hosting elsewhere?

Re: A BIG BANG FOR THE 300D!

This site uses advertisting that gives me the chance to install
Winfixer, then it re-directs to some other dodgy site. Winfixer, as
you may know, is part of a suite of tools known as "Bastard Spawn of
Satan". Regardless of the blurb that Winfixer gives, it's malware.

Re: A BIG BANG FOR THE 300D!

Helen: No, not part of the powershot series. It was one of Canon's
first DSLRs; you may know it better as the Canon Digital Rebel, and
later as the Rebel XT (although that is technically the 350D).
Yup, I did just that. Although insead of setting an exposure time, I
find it's much easier to set it to bulb and then cover the lens with a
hat between fireworks. You can see the trail of the firework shooting
into the air so it's fairly easy to tell when one will be going off,
although being able to space them into the frame nicely is another
matter.
Yeah definitely. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to find a
good place to set up where I could have a decent foreground or
background. Oh well, there's always next year.
