Minolta x570 problem

So, I've had the x570 for ages, and it's been great. All of a sudden
it has started acting weird. I'll shoot a roll and when I develop,
four or five of the pictures will have a vertical band where the
picture is washed out--a bit yellowish. Some worse than others. My
first thought would be that there is some light getting in. Perhaps if
I take a few pictures in a row, it's ok, but if the film sits in one
spot for a while, it starts mucking up the film. What do y'all think?

Re: minolta x570 problem

You have light leaking in. Most likely from the door. Check the foam
and see if there is gummy residue on the door itself. Another location
to check is the door hinge area.
This is a fix most anybody should be able to do.
Go to Walmart and in the crafts section get a sheet of black foamie
and a sheet of black felt. Both should be self adhesive.
Using a wood toothpick with one end flatened clean out the door
channels. Next remove the foam from the hinge area.
With a rag dampened in alcohol clean both the door sealing edges, door
hinge area, and the channels.
Using a cutter cut a couple of strips of the foamie thin enough to
slip into the channels then remove the backing and place into the
channels. Then cut a strip of felt approx 1/4 in. wide x 1 3/4 in.
long and place in the door where you removed the old foam. Then cut 2
small strips wide enough to go into the door channel (on the door
itself) making sure one strip is long enough to go just past the tab
that engages the counter lever.
Close the door and let it sit for awhile to set the new seals.
You can also buy a kit on ebay but my experience with it is you will
be changing it in a year or two again.
I've used foamies and felt for a number of years now and as yet
haven't had to change any that I have done.
