The Octopus

Quite sure there will be people finding this interesting;
The past ten days or so Paul Allen's yacht (Microsoft fame and Bill
Gate's colleague) is anchored behind my flat. Today's newspaper gave
some info about it:
built in Germany and completed in 2003
at a cost of more than $200 000 000
a permanent crew of 60 (ex Navy Seals (who serves as bodyguards (!) )
2 helicopters aboard
a mini submarine
remote controlled underwater vehicle which can run on the ocean bottom
a 4 wheel drive vehicle
7 decks
10 luxury lounges
Ultra modern studio for digital recordings
a cinema theatre
a basketball course
and a swimming pool.
Space for about 100 guests is available.
Allen also is the owner of 2 smaller yachts
and he was here with one of them about a year ago
and I took pictures of that one as well.
The Rapport's report about it is at
http://home.intekom.com/davesplace/rapport.jpg
and I took this photo of the Octopus

from my flat.

Re: the Octopus

I'm convinced that at least most of them are.

When you look at High Society and their false smiles you really do
wonder if they are any happier than others.

Re: the Octopus

Wonder how much costs the Adobe boss yacht too?
Find it ridiculous if you want... but I'm sure you'll dont refuse one if
your loving mate make this present to you....
especially to sail to the ocean and try to catch wildlife photos like you
get used to ;-)

Really nice looking.

Yacht-shmacht. Talk about bad-taste. I always thought yachts had sails and masts. That looks like a particularly ugly
fizz-boat glued to a condominium.

very interesting what you are saying here James,
and yes, this vessel is 127 meters long.
I'll see what I can do tomorrow; whether I can get some closeups in.
Let me tell you about the arogance of the vessel's captain. According
to the newspapers report, he asked the harbour authorities
not to allow our harbour helicopter (who accompany all big ships in
and out,) to fly over the Octopus, as 'the wind will desturb the
guests' :-(.
Of course his request was refused.

Re: the Octopus

Grab you digital and walk down there and try to get onboard and see what
happens, just casually walk up and start taking pictures. Try to get
some closeups to post here.

Re: the Octopus

There was a race between him and the oracle leader for the biggest
yacht built. Actually both are so large they can't go to most rich
folks ports as there is no room to park them. Some folks have too
much $$, maybe Allen should start giving it away like some of the
other ultra rich folks are doing...........
