Filters for Carl Zeiss lenses.

Hello, I'm new to photography and am having trouble with filters. I'm
using an old Praktica MTL3 with Carl Zeiss lenses (flektogon 2.4/35).
I've looked on the internet to try to find filters but all the info is
overwhelming. How do I figure out what size filter I need? There seems
to be a screw thread on the inside lip of the lense but when a friend
lent me a 52mm circular polarising filter to try it looked as though it
should screw onto the outside of a lense. I feel silly asking but I'm
really confused.
Thanks
CJ

Carl Zeiss west is *Much* better than Jena?
Methinks someone is overwhelmed by ideological prejudices and a certain
lack of knowledge...
Having used both lineups extensively, I can say that *some* Carl Zeiss
lenses are "better" than their Jena equivalents, just as the opposite is
true in other cases.
The "commies" - among other things - pioneered the retro focus
super-wide angle lens, and the Flektogon 20mm f/4.0 is better than
anything Canon has ever made in that FL.

Re: filters for Carl Zeiss lenses.

The Flektogon 35/2.4 is an excellent lens.
It definitely uses 49mm filters. Many of the
CZJ lenses for Praktica and many of the old
Pentax lenses used the same filter size, so
the 49mm filters you buy will fit a lot of lenses.

...
You'll need 49 mm filters (49 x 0.75 mm.)
And the manufacturer of the lens is Carl Zeiss Jena in East Germany. If you
say just "Carl Zeiss" it implies the West German outfit different (and
making much better stuff) than the commies in East Germany.
