Remember the overused PS effect from a few years past - Trendwhore?

I need to revisit the days of the abstract crystal designs that
dominated the digital design world a few years back. It was labeled as
'trendwhore', was constantly used in forum sigs and there used to be
tutorials all over the place on how to create these abstracts.
Something along these lines:

At one point I had a few good photoshop only tutorials that did not use
a 3d modeler and I've been searching two days now for something
comparable, but with no luck.
Anyone have any old links or saved tutorials they could pass along?

Yeah I found this site repeatedly... So many other sites linked to this
one. Thanks for the suggestion though! I'm hoping to come across some
of the techniques that rely solely on Photoshop, not a 3d application.
