Minolta SRT 101 Thanks

Thanks to you all for the leads. I've printed them and have some places to
start asking more questions.
I appreciate the help.
A camera shop (took it in for repair of the tip of the film advance lever -
are you laughing?) repairman told me to hang on to this camera as it was the
last of the metal body cameras. Everything new at that time was plastic
(had to be 1979 or so).
It's really a great camera; I'm just digitally spoiled. I have a wonderful
though heavy Mavica MVC FD91 with a 14x zoom. It's is so simple and takes
awesome pictures. Close ups are great and when using high resolution; a
photo can be printed in a really large finished product. But wide angle
doesn't exist and backing up has its limitations.
So, I've been looking at a Kodak V570 Dual Lens. It's a tiny camera and one
of the consumer comments was a caution about keeping your fingers out of the
wide angle frame. The wide angle is 23 and the other lens is a 39-110 zoom.
Perhaps I can find a wide angle only camera if this SRT 101 lens thing
doesn't work out.
Again, thanks to you all.

Re: Minolta SRT 101 Thanks

More good leads. Thank you.
Maybe I'll buy a few fresh rolls and fall in love again with this old beast.
Sincerely,
Joanne

Re: Minolta SRT 101 Thanks

It's an excellent camera, but with its age, there will be some problems
with it, mostly the CDS cells and glue holding them in the prism, light
seals, and the typical mechanical parts. There are a lot of excellent
on-line resources about the camera, including a Minotla forum (all
types) on Photo.net, two Yahoo groups, and several Web sites, such as:
http://members.aol.com/manualminolta/srt101.htm
http://www.photoethnography.com/ClassicCameras/index-frameset.html?MinoltaSRT101.html~mainFrame
The advance lever tip was often the first part to break, but a good
shop usually has a bunch to cannibalize for parts. The other problem is
batteries, which only runs the light meter, and it can operate without
one if you want. There are several options to replacing the old mercury
battery.
Good luck with it. I still keep my first camera, a circa-1969 SRT-101
and a later SRT-303 working.
