OUT TO LUNCH WITH THE 20D !

Well sports fans, it was back to work as usual today after a one week
vacation in South Carolina, if you can call that a vacation (look for
my vacation pics later this week).
Anyways, I managed to squeeze off a few during my lunch break:

Back in the old days I used to have one of those Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX=20
macro lenses and even on an N90 the auto focussing was like sucking=20

Re: OUT TO LUNCH WITH THE 20D !

A lot of that depends on what body the lens is attached to, and how
sensitive/precise/quick its AF sensors are.
I remember being quite amazed at the difference of focus accuracy/speed when
I compared an older film Canon "Rebel" with my EOS 3. My non-USM 100mm
macro was downright snappy when on the 3...where on the Rebel it was a
hopeless, hunting-and-missing, AF mess.

I think so, possibly because my ISP was backing-up their humongous
Usenet archive around that time ... (they apparently also have one of
the largest coverages of Usenet groups in Western Europe (Benelux and
France anyway), and are on the backbone of the major intercontinental
connections). Thanks for the feedback anyway.

Paul...
Follow Bret's example. Get a hold of a can of freeze spray, that'll slow
the buggers down!

Bart, just so you know, those images were loading extremely slow from
here in west coast USA. Perhaps temporary?

Re: OUT TO LUNCH WITH THE 20D !

Yeah it sort of works sometimes but definitely has big problems, even
without TC. Agreed about tracking bugs, though it seems almost a 50/50
stab whether it's really useful or leaves you hopelessly crippled and
frustrated.

Re: OUT TO LUNCH WITH THE 20D !

You can use it...especially with fast moving bugs, etc.
-But it's nice to have full-time manual control over AF for fine tuning.

SNIP
Yet I use it (Servo AF) a lot on handheld macros with the subject
blown in all directions by, and/or compensating for my own swaying in,
the wind.
<http://www.xs4all.nl/~bvdwolf/temp/2924_CommonHouseFly-T.jpg> which
happens to be a meat-fly rather than a house-fly, or despite the
monopod,
