Help with Minolta X-700 problem

I have a Minlota X-700 camera that just gave me a problem: it won't
wind and, as a result, won't snap a picture. I replaced the battery and
the same thing is occurring. When I look through the viewfinder, I see
a flashing red arrow at the bottom and it's pointing towards a flashing
red star.
Can anyone offer advice to fix this? Thanks, JOHN

Sounds to me that your capacitors took a dump. search on google for "Minolta
X-700 and capacitors" for more info.
if you want to get it fixed this guy will do it cheap.

In some of the minolta x-series when the battery dies in mid cycle,
this will happen.
I would try to gently spring the shutter, meaning you take the lens
off the camera, open the back of the camera, then you put on cotton
gloves like the ones worn when loading sheet film. With your left hand
thumb you gently raise the mirror (without touching the mirror surface
and then with both thumbs you gently grip the shutter curtain, pull it
back slightly and then let go. If it works, you have a useable camera,
if not then you didn't lose anything.

Sounds like the shutter capisitors have gone bad.
Remove the 4 screws holding the bottom plate on and look in the corner
near the 3 motor drive contacts. You will see a circuit board. There
will be either a electrolytic (can style) or a blue capisitor. If it
is the electrolytic cap that is probably the problem. However there is
also another one located under the rewind in the top.
You will need to send it in for replacement of the caps.
