Battery life with 18-200MM VR and D70

Just a little 'report'. I shot about 350 images over a 3 day
period, almost all of them with VR turned on, and the battery
indicator on the D70 never came off of full.
That's pretty cool and far better than I expected.
BTW, can anyone comment on their experience with the "Normal"
and "Active" settings? The manual seems to indicate that you
should use Active for shots from a moving vehicle (which I
rarely do). Is that the only time (or from an airplane, boat,
etc.) that it is of value?

No. At least I can't find it anywhere in there.

Does the VR setting appear in EXIF?

it also depends on how long you keep the machine in focus track before you
make the shot. If you are in full auto, and don't press the shutter, rather
just look through the glass, then only focus and track right before exposure
you will get much less vr and focus motor battery wear.

I probably will. As I said, it still reads a full battery
charge.
That's not the goal, I was just curious how much the VR would
impact battery life. It doesn't seem to make much of a
noticeable difference.
good to know...
Agreed. I was just trying to collect some other opinions as
well.

That's normal; actually, you should get more than double that shooting RAW
with a D70 and VR lens. You should be happy you don't have a D200 if your
goal is many shots on a single charge. The D200 shooting RAW averages 250
shots per charge.
I pretty much keep it on normal or have VR turned off completely; this is on
the 70-200mm VR. The active setting is a bit more aggressive and can
actually blur an image in some cases. Both settings work extremely well in
different conditions. It's best to experiment and see what works best for
your shooting style.
