Another Day Another Camera

Yes, faithful friends, and the kooks and loons, too, last weekend on my (at
least) annual trip to Chicago, I decided to do more than just browse Central
Camera, I decided to buy a camera! No, it's not digital, in fact, it's not
even 35mm (apologies for the OT post)--it's medium-format. One could say
this camera has a stellar reputation for quality of lens and robustness of
build, but one would have to be tongue in cheek, ignorant, or out-right
lieing to do so--I bought a Holga. ;-)

Good fun, and surprisingly easy to use. Cost $19. Just look at that lovely
lens flare!

Funny you should say that. A guy pulled a knife on me the other day
and forced a Holga on me. The next day I was out buying a handgun. Things
like that make you rethink your whole attitude towards being armed...

Good on ya. Best camera anywhere for urban street photography. If
you get mugged for it, no great loss. ;-)

Great shots Matt.
Better than _lens babies_.
Glad to see someone here is *really* enjoying his photography.
One of your Chicago trips you should stop by. I'm 1/2 mile off 94 at
exit 19. Be glad to fire up the BBQ and have a few pops.

When are you whippersnappers gonna learn that throwing money at
your photos ain't gonna make them better?!!
Not to mention the hackneyed gimmick of a center-spot diffusing
filter...
;-)
Anyway, it's hard to imagine you need a lens hood with that much
vignetting. And I'd love to see the MTF scores on that baby - something
like 0.3 lpmm at the edges...
You got the waist-level finder, power winder, and scanning digital
back for it though, right?
Have fun!

Haven't you hear yet? Film is dead! So are lenses that don't focus
themselves!
He should be clapped in irons for even thinking about using a camera like
that!

Re: Another Day Another Camera

That first picture is frickin' outstanding. I really like it a lot. I
guess it doesn't matter what type of equipment you have, it's the
photographer that makes the difference. In this case it was the
photographer and the lack of multi-coating on the lens.

Good for you Matt!! I heard each photograph will be different in
exposure, etc. A work of art! Lens flare-------hey that's the beauty
of it! Enjoy it!!

I think the whole thing's great fun. There's a couple others on that page
without the lens flare, if you scroll down.

Wow! That's a pretty neat effect! I don't know why, but if ever you
want
to get rid of that lens flare you can fashion a lens hood from an empty
pork
& beans can. Who says you can't do photography on the cheap?
Definitely
worth the $19 investment.
If you have a decent MF camera, what you do is get the lens-actually
the front standard-off an old and now useless and worthless Polaroid
Highlander-the smaller roll size camera.
Look for a biue or beige one with a serial number starting with "L".
The price is the same, two or three dollars.
