Photo objectives for the summer

I've had a miserable time of late doing _any_ photography. Other than a
couple must-do studio shoots, it looks like my upcoming vacation will be
the limit of my photography opportunities for this summer.
Do you have any specific objectives for this summer?
Cheers,
Alan.

Ha!
Here is such an example:

I don't easily smile for cameras.

Get a passing grade in small format.

Re: Photo objectives for the summer

Is that the new Olympus 300 f/2.8? If so I'm sure you'll get some great
images. That's a lot of focal length for the 4/3 format so you may need
to review the quality of you tripod and head to avoid even the slightest
vibration at shutter time.
With my 300 f/2.8 I've never managed really great widlife photos
although many others are quite good. It takes enormous patience and
location, location, location.
Cheers,
Alan.

Re: Photo objectives for the summer

In article <kGfjg.4$9k.1@bos-service2.ext.ray.com>,
If you really enjoy photography and nature, you absolutely do not want
to visit Hawaii without bringing a camera. Honolulu is just like most
other big cities but the wild areas of Hawaii are amazing. If you don't
want to lug around your gear because of your sporting activities, just
bring a weatherproof point and shoot (I'd buy one if you need to ... an
$80 camera and $80 in film is nothing compared to the thousands that a
vacation to Hawaii can cost). The landscapes are so amazing that in many
cases you can take better photos with the limited options of a point and
shoot than you can take with an SLR in the typical "average" area that
many of us live in.
Enjoy your trip.

Not to worry, your wallet will become as much lighter as the lens will be
heavy.........

Holy mother of all heavy glass! Some folks were hoping there'd be a .5
coming out, but that Nikon snuck up, and beat 'em all..... How much does
that ƒ.28 weigh. How big is the lens hood? Must be a monster!

Want to try doing some "different" wildlife photography. Got a 300mm f.28 +
1.4X nikon to use on my E1 and hope to hone my skills using long glass..

Re: Photo objectives for the summer

Well for me summer does not have any real meaning so all I can really
speak to is what
objectives I have for the next few months.
We will be going back to Ann Arbor, to visit my home town, and so one
objective is to get a lot of good photos of the places I knew growing
up.
I would like to get a photo of the Lahaina Noon, this is where the sun
is right over head. Somehow I have yet to get a photograph of shadows
going straight down.
And I would like to get a better collection of photographs of the
undeveloped areas around town, they are disappearing fast.
And I want to get better canoe photos, always working on that.

Re: Photo objectives for the summer

Sounds adventurous. Not my cuppa. A friend had a similar complaint
after climbing the mountains in Peru he was so O2-deprived that he
couldn't really care about photography. Took a few shots that only
kindly could be called snapshots...
Cheers,
Alan
