Contax 167MT - over exposure

I've just received Provia 100F slides taken on a recently purchased 167MT
with the 50 f1.7 Planar. 6 out of the 39 slides are seriously over-exposed
(say by 2 stops or more), and I'm wondering whether this is a known problem
for this combo at this age. The camera appears "clean" with no obvious
deterioration of foam etc., no marks on shutter blades, and the lens
aperture mechanism doesn't seem stiff in any way; and where the exposure is
correct, the slides are excellent. All shots were taken in good weather,
outside, using the Av mode at around f5.6 to f8, so should have been well
exposed. Exposure compensation was not used, and subject matter easily fell
into an "average" category (sun behind camera, no arty stuff - dead
boring!). The batteries are new.
I had a few oddities on my first film which I put down to my lack of
familiarity, but now I'm not so sure... I'm beginning to suspect the
shutter as on the first film I got some odd results at full aperture. A
magnets problem as on some OM10s?
TIA

Thanks guys for your suggestions. I'll try another film and see how it is
then.

Re: Contax 167MT - over exposure

I have a Contax 167 and have had no problems with it. The triple A
batteries don't last very long but if you were using new batteries they
should have been all right.

I am unfamiliar with that particular camera, but I would investigate the
possibility that the aperture is a little slow at returning from wide open
just before the shutter trips.....Perhaps the blades need cleaning.......

Re: Contax 167MT - over exposure

You may need to get a hand-held light meter and take a reading, then
see what the Contax reads for the same scene. If you are not 1/2 stop
within the two readings, the camera may need adjusting by a repair
shop.
