Nikon Coolscan V - colour shift on slide scans?

I have noticed that the colour I view on a lot of my transparencies is not
quite the same in the scans - mostly I think there is a loss in the red -
this causes most notably lilacs/purples to scan as blues. The films I use
are Fuji Provia 400F and Fuji Velvia 50. Yes I can tweak the result around
in Photoshop but I am surprised I need to do this.
I reset the scanner settings to factory default - no real difference. Is
this a film or a scanner issue?

Deep Thought

Re: Nikon Coolscan V - colour shift on slide scans?

Is it a scanner issue?
Is it a monitor issue?
Is it a print issue?
Is it a human issue?
The point being that you can never get an exact match between viewing
media. Even a projector will "color" the slide with the light source
and the lens characteristic.
Check your color gammuts; calibrate your scanner, monitor and printer
workflow.
Look at the slide on a brigh but cloudy day through a loupe, that is
about as "exact" as it can be.
I too am often frustrated by this, and in the end, image by image it has
to be tweaked to make that image look good for the way it is presented.
Cheers,
Alan

...
Maybe there is a problem with the red channel on the scanner.
However, unless you have created profiles for both monitor and scanned, it
is pot luck with respect to color balance.
