Photo of a visitor

On the 8th of this month, I took this photo of a visitor
in one of Durban's many gardens, (this was in the
Japanese Gardens) and as said, he was also only a visitor.
Very well a daily visitor, but he and the rest of the
crew(s) are in and out there. Sometimes see what they
can harvest at the houses in the vicinity, or in the
mountains or forests; gone for a few hours
and back in the afternoons. Clever, they know that
is the time when people back from work and go for a braai
(Braai - pronounced br-eye- is the South African version
of a barbecue) or simply a stroll, and they love
handing out snacks.
I know because I get there quite often, about 5 kilos
from I live.

Re: Photo of a visitor

I didn't know the exchange rates for rands? is it?
the Fuji has a fixed lens?
seems for that price the Canon digital rebel or similar might be a better
investment
as you can use a variety of lenses.
I find the optical telephoto are just not the same as a real tele (300 or
400)
it's good to research your purchase and get as many features you can for
the bucks you can afford.

So where do you get the 3mm screw-on polarizer filters for the D820?

Here's more paparazzi shots - some else's...
Have you ever listened to Condoleezza Rice & Hillary Clinton on the
stage? Do you realise that Condoleezza said "The next bush in the
White House will be mine" (!)
Here is a paparazzi movie from the White House.
Your earphones on and increase the volume a bit *before* you click on:

ooops, my mistake, I assume you are the photo-editor:-)
Funny that some advanced digital cameras do not have a stabilizer
but my wife's cell phone (Samsung D820) freezes the images.
My Fuji does not freeze the subject and I can not even make a phone
call from it.
Mine is Pentium 4 Intel 1.6 (bit more than 1 gig Ram) but my main
programs is Corel Painter 9.5 & CS2 - (& newsgroups of course:-)
so, this is li'tl bit more than 2 years, but for the moment the camera
is of more importance. Can you believe there was a time when we
had no comps! The TV time:-0
2 things I love about your Minolta is the tiff's and the
bulb - 30 seconds speed.
If you want to replace it, follow me:

a photographer never retires. The pro's retire and become amateurs
again:-) (hobbyists) but at least you won't need the lenses.
I must admit, I were actually only looking for confirms that my
decision about the Fuji is on the spot. I drove to Umhlanga this
morning, to Kodak. Had it in my hands - the familiar Fuji feeling,
SLR-type like the Minolta - but the price is much higher then what I
have seen on http://www.sacamera.co.za/products.php?cat=140
(and... I still must convince my Katwoman - the Tigerlady:-)

Re: Photo of a visitor

I am not the photographer my husband is
so not a good one to ask about cameras
he uses CANON 10 D and we are thinking of upgrading when budget allows for
more megapixels (or can rent it if necessary for certain jobs)
and we will purchase a stabilizer lens before January (70-200 2.8 zoom tele)
without a tripod digital is very sensitive to movement so purchase of light
weight tripod is also on the shopping list
My comp is going on two years old so may be time to replace it also
on the wish list is a monitor for the studio to see the shots as we are
shooting
as of now the comps are in another room
my personal snapshot camera is old now but it was great in its time
Minolta dimage 7
has a decent built in lens and decent zoom capabilities
and some nice features
I even have an adapter to use it with the strobes
(I made my husband use it to try digital before we got the Canon, which he
hated at first but is now a fan)
we have an enormous investment in EF lenses and although they do work as
promised, I felt Canon should have told us that IS would be needed. We chose
Canon of course because of all the lenses compatibility and it was not
really a lie but misleading. So now we have to buy lenses we thought we
would not need to buy again.
already have a 300 mm manual
and a 300 EF 2.8 $$$$$
and so many others
It looks like we have to start over buying equipment at near retirement age,
digital like computers is dated in 2-3 years requiring expensive upgrading,
not like a 35mm SLR that had similar features and design for over 20 years!!
So far only the SONY has put stabilization into the camera where I think it
should be. Maybe look into that brand.
