Shadow feature (not drop-shadow)

VERY new to CS2, could/would someone, please, point me to directions on how
to create a shadow of an object. The object is a table - top and four legs.
I would like to create a soft shadow where the legs and top will be
"projected" from an arbitrary light source.
(Object has already been extracted.)

Wayne

Re: Shadow feature (not drop-shadow)

...
There are lots of tutorials on shadows!!
http://www.wbcampaigns.net/downloads/tutorials/shadow/index.php
If you are not going to use the in-built drop shadow feature! you will need
to make a feathered selection of the table, fill with a gradient black to
dark grey - the black of the shadow will need to tail off into grey towards
its extremities!!
You will then need to use the various transform features to mould your new
shadow shape as you would like it (on a new layer of course - where you can
adjust the opacity) place the cut-out table shape layer on top of the shadow
layer, you can blend the shadows ends with a soft eraser brush set to 10% or
similar.
If you are new to Photoshop you really need to look up tutorials for what
you are trying to do, there are thousands on the web, mostly for free!!
