Browser problem with CS2

Posted this earlier...and it still hasnt showed up...so trying again.
I installed CS2 while i had PS7 still on my computer. Everything in CS2
works fine...except for the browser (which i find quite handy).
I think there must have been some conflict with having both versions running
at the same time. But i have uninstalled both and reinstalled CS2...but
STILL no luck with the browser.
i got the CS2 from work (LEGIT...as explained by the adobe team when they
gave us a demo...i am able to use one copy at home as long it is not in use
at work) but i think i have to clear out all past adobe products in order to
get this to work.
I also get a message "unable to run adobe updater" or something like that.
I have even tried to uninstall everything and just use the version 7 that i
paid for but now that CS2 has been on there...no luck.
does anyone know what i can do? I really like the browser feature...it just
makes things so much easier.
thanks

OK, simple enough. Fired up the laptop and: C: Program FilesAdobeBridge (
man, why didn't I think that it would be that easy). Bridge.exe is 8,268 KB (
6/10/06) on my system. There are 51 "objects," files/folders under ...Bridge.
Folders are Activation, browser, db_support, Legal, Plug-Ins, Presets,
required, Resources - some with sub-folders. Under Resources, en (English), I
found Adobe Bridge Opener Preferences.xml (11 KB, 1/1/2005, in my case). Hope
that some of this helps.

If you are getting an error msg. when you launch Bridge, it would seem that
one of two things is going on. First, there are prefs. for Bridge, and they
may be set to something which is wrong for your config/machine. I do not know
exactly where the Bridge "Options" are located, as I have only set them from a
working copy of the program - Tacit, edjh, MikeR, any help here? Next, it
could be that you got a bad install of the Bridge component. As it is now a
stand-alone (as well as being invoked from the programs in the suite), can you
launch it from the folder via the executable? Do you get the same error, as
when you try and launch from PS (icon in the Options Bar, just right of
middle)?
I'll go look in WinExplorer and see if I can give you the exact location of
that folder from my laptop, as it has the default install for CS2.
If it is the latter, I would guess that you can re-install, just Bridge, or
maybe "Repair" the installation from the DVDs, but do not know this as fact.

Re: browser problem with CS2

Hunt..you always da man.
Yeah..i think i mean the bridge.
my internet browser is woking just fine. What i am referriing to is what in
version 7 was the 'browser' that let you preview and sort etc. and durring
our at work demo they showed us all the new features that it offered and it
looked pretty cool.
all the other programs on the CDs work just fine..illustrator, indesign,
acrobat...just PS is giving me a shitter of a time.
I have a new puter (about three months old)...and am still weeding out some
of the crap that came bundled in with it (its a dell dude)
yes..i went through the activation thing...
exactly what specific info can i give you. Running xp..tis a fast new puter
with a gig of ram (with room to expand). I'll check the install cd and see
if i am missing something

By "browser," do you mean (as of CS) Bridge? The program with similar browsing
capabilities was called "Browser," before CS.
As for any conflict with PSv7 & CS/CS2, I highly doubt it. I have PS4, PS7,
and CS2 on one machine with not a problem. I still use a single "trick" that
went away after v4 for one very good client. I had 7 on and left it on when I
went to CS, then CS2. I always install the new one into another folder and
leave at least one older version on, until I become quick and proficient with
the later one.
I'd suspect that some of your problem is with your Internet connection. from
CS on, there is an aspect that must "call home," to Adobe to run completely
and properly. If you are getting error messages about Adobe Updater, I'd start
looking at the connection and all of its aspects.
Did CS2 allow you to register and (oh God, what's the word that Adobe uses for
validation??? Brain cramp time! Someone help me out. You know it's the process
that everyone hates... ) do the ACTIVATION - there I remembered it, when you
installed? That would mean that your copy and your Internet connection worked
fine then. Something must have changed. Can you connect to the Internet now?
Do you have maybe a dial-up, that must be activated manually? Did you recently
upgrade, or change Internet Browsers, i.e. IE, Firefox, etc.?
Give us a bit more info. You should not have to uninstall/reinstall PS, unless
you got an error, or crash during the initial installation.

Re: browser problem with CS2

Just an idea that might not answer your question.
Since I use IE7 beta the adobe updater cannot connect to the adobe update
site.
That might be the cause of the update problem you have.
Browser works fine here
