Flash update: Metz 45 CL-1

Thanks again to all that responded to my inquiry about a flash unit for my
F2. Since the Metz 45 had multiple recommendations I decided to look into
that one. The reviews were impressive.
Next step was to check ebay. To make a long story, er ahh, shorter, I got a
Metz 45 CL-1 with charger, cable and manual, shipping and all for just under
$50. :-)
The down side is that it doesn't come with the bracket to attach it to the
camera. Strangely, four out of five didn't have the bracket, and one
appeared to have a broken stub of a bracket. So, are these brackets prone to
breaking? Do people not use them so they get misplaced? Is there a generic
replacement? Easy to make one?
Once again, your help is appreciated..
..

Re: Flash update: Metz 45 CL-1

The bit on the flash is a plastic block with a dovetail slot in it and a
sprung loaded pin held to the flash by a metal band. The bracket that
screws onto the bottom of the camera and fits into the dovetail block is a
hard plastic with synthetic rubber pads on it.

Re: Flash update: Metz 45 CL-1

I've only used the CT series of flashes (45 CT1, CT-4 & CT-5); Their
brackets are mainly metal, with rubber or plastic inserts to keep them
from slipping.
I haven't used my brackets as crowbars or in extremely low temperatures,
but generally I've abused the flashes pretty often over several decades,
and they keep working (accurately).
Anyway, here you can get the user manual:

Are you sure? I'd think that plastic wouldn't be strong/rigid enough.
Also, the pictures of the CL-1 brackets look exactly like mine (CT-
series brackets - I assume that they are the same).

Re: Flash update: Metz 45 CL-1

The replacement I found states in the description "The flash bracket is made
with the combination of metal & plastic". I guess that beats no bracket at
all.

Re: Flash update: Metz 45 CL-1

On eBay UK it is quite common to see them sold without brackets and
cables.
They snap quite easily in extreme cold temperatures.

Re: Flash update: Metz 45 CL-1

I've actually never seen a Metz 45 series flash being sold without an
attachment bracket: They are an essential part of the flash.
The bracket itself is a cast metal piece which would be impossible to
break without using industrial strength machine tools. I've never heard
of one accidentally breaking!
My advice: Wait until you can get a complete flash (with bracket).
Again, in Europe the CT1 models (complete) often go for well under $50...

Hmmm. Hope it came with the clamp thingy that holds on to the bottom
of the flash handle. The bottom portion fits into the clamp with a
dove-tail joint and a locking screw. It may be possible to make/adapt
another bracket to take the Metz but I think it will be messy and not
very rigid.
I would find someone selling the bracket bottom piece. TTBOMK
they are interchangeable in the 45 series, maybe even in the 60
series.
