Fault with canon 35mm prime lens, any suggestions

Hello All,
My 35mm f2.0 canon lens has recently stopped working correctly. It will not
auot focus say 50% of the time and will not manual focus if I swithc from af
to mf whilst the lens is not working. If I turn my camera off and on again
it sometimes corrects the prob. sometimes not (using canon eos350d).
Anyone have anysuggestions or easy diy fixes. I live in rural Ireland so
getting is serviced will be very difficult to say the least.

Careful! I also own Nikon kit, and know its shortfalls too!

I too have that lens, and the last time I used it on a serious shoot, the
AF/MF switch fell off, and without any previous warning. Fortunately I found
it before leaving the venue (It's small and black.). I've stuck it back on
and mine's now fine again. Suggest yours may be getting loose, or perhaps
worn. The internal metal activating probe is quite slender. If you do take
it off, make sure that the internals are set to the same mode before
replacing the switch and glueing. I think I used Superglue. I'd suggest
checking whether the switch housing is firmly fixed to the lens body. (Mine
showed that Canon had used minimal glue.)
