I have no dog in this, er... discussion, so I'll just ask the obvious: Why
not simply submit a photo for one of the mandates? No matter how hard you
try, it can't be much worse than a lot of the ones I've submitted. It's all
just for fun anyway.
Why all of the above gnashing of teeth and bone? It's not about everyone
else's participation. It's about yours. If you feel so moved, send a
picture. There is no minimum-level-of-participation prerequisite to do
so...

I like properly done x-posting, and we all know how infrequently that's
done.
The SI predates the addition of several groups, no? And before rec.photo
mushroomed? Regardless, it'd be more fun if there were more
participants. Some people regard this group as a film only group,
however far from the intention - uh, varies.
Just some thoughts. I know how difficult change can be from personal
experience.
