Non AI lens on Nikon FE

If I have a Nikon FE with the AI version of the Nikon F bayonet. If the only
standard lens available is a Nikkor H Auto 50mm F2 what effect will this
have on the metering?
Will I have any metering at all
I can do without the internal metering anyway.

Re: Non AI lens on Nikon FE

As shown in the manual for my F3, AI lenses have a meter coupling ridge
which engages the meter coupling lever. The manual instructs the user to
flip up the meter coupling lever before mounting a pre-AI lens.
If you can flip up the meter coupling lever, then do so and mount the lens.
Otherwise, don't try to mount the lens.
In any case, you can only use stop down metering.
I own a pre-AI 55mm macro lens, and I can verify that the lens can be
mounted and used on my F3.

Can you flip up the lever which activates AI metering? If so, then there
may be hope.
If you cannot flip up this lever, then the lens will run into interferences.
Do not force the lens.
My F3s can mount an AI lens because it has a movable lever, but I really
really don't like stop down metering any more. Besides, I only own one
pre-AI lens anyway.

You will have stop-down metering.

Re: Non AI lens on Nikon FE

1) You need to use stop-down metering.
2) You'll need to raise the AI coupling flange before mounting the lens.
Both these statements assume that the lens hasn't been AI
modified/adapted, otherwise it will work perfectly.
